The tiny white specks you see on the glass are actually called planaria worms and are caused by overfeeding. This is why it is important to not feed your fish more than twice a day and only what they can eat in a few minutes. You MUST remove any uneaten food. These worms are relatively harmless unless they become an infestation like shown here. Fish may show some slight scratching, but regular water changes with gravel siphoning is important to keep them from becoming a problem.
